You can create your own online store that sells unique products to an international audience and make money online doing it. E-commerce typically involves selling other people’s products online by partnering with a manufacturer that makes the products and posting those items on your online store.

When a buyer makes a purchase, the money goes to the seller, who then pays the wholesale price for the product. That product is then shipped directly to the buyer.

This is known as drop-shipping, where the seller (you) doesn’t keep products in stock at a warehouse or other storage location. Instead, they just purchase the products that buyers order once they’re ordered. This reduces costs related to storage and mass purchasing products. It also reduces the risk of not being able to sell all of the wholesale products.

If you want to get into e-commerce, there are plenty of ways to do so. You may have thought that you needed to work for a large corporate company in order to work in e-commerce, but you can actually very easily start an e-commerce store online at your own home. In fact, there are tons of vastly different directions you can take your e-commerce store, from using seller platforms to building your own website and starting your own store.

Open an eBay store: You can showcase your wares on one of the oldest e-commerce sites that are still around. But there are additional fees involved for listing items and paying commission to eBay.

Sign up for an Amazon seller account: With an Amazon seller account, you become a third-party seller on one of the largest online shopping sites in the world and can choose between Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA), in which products are shipped from the manufacturer or wholesaler to an Amazon warehouse and then delivered by Amazon delivery drivers. The other option, Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM) goes right from your store’s manufacturer, wholesaler, or your own stock to the buyer. One perk of using FBA is that your products can also qualify for Prime shipping timelines and discounts, making them that much more appealing to customers on the platform.

Create an e-commerce website: This site is not affiliated with any specific online seller brand, like eBay or Amazon. While you can use Shopify and other online store hosting platforms to host your e-commerce site, you typically pay a flat fee for using the services and are not obviously affiliated with the site host’s brand.
